Set to open in Omaha by the end of the year is a new American-style Gastropub called the Pig and Finch. The new restaurant will be moving into the spaced once occupied by Ruby Tuesdays in the One Pacific Place shopping center. The 801 Restaurant Group will operate the new place. Currently, the Pig and Finch has only one other location in Leawood KS. Look for more information closer to its opening.

The 7th Annual Nebraska Balloon and Wine festival is scheduled for this weekend starting Friday August 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. This event combines hot air balloon launches and wine tastings from many Nebraska wineries. Also there will be barbeque and other food items offered, as well as arts and crafts and pony rides for the kids. There will be live music provided from area bands and musicians. This event also runs on Saturday, August 10th from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00p.m. The Nebraska Balloon and Wine festival is located at Coventry Campus, just south of 204th and Q street.

Lauritzen Gardens is hosting a Sweet Corn Festival Saturday and Sunday, Augsut 10th and 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m each day. They have described it as such:

“Guests can enjoy a variety of activities, entertainment and plenty of delicious, locally grown sweet corn. They can hop on the hayrack ride, cool off with free samples of “Nebraska Sweet Corn” ice cream from Ted & Wally’s Premium Homemade Ice Cream, purchase freshly popped kettle corn and learn about corn (and other New World foods) through fun, educational activities. Guests can also explore new ways to incorporate sweet corn during special cooking demonstrations. Live entertainment will be featured throughout the weekend and Hap Abraham Catering will offer fresh hot buttered corn, a variety of sweet corn items and other fresh fare.”
