Cosmic Forecast, June 16-June 22

Happy Summer Solstice, everybody! On next Tuesday, June 21st, the Sun enters the sign of Cancer at lunchtime. How appropriate. The sign of Cancer rules the stomach. You are what you eat; yet maybe it’s not food you seek. Here comes more heat, more rain and more humidity. Stay cool and work against the (over) flow. Instead, get right and travel light. Peace and love shall conquer all. There are no mistakes. MOJOPOPlanetPower.com c GEMINI (5.21-6.21) Why are you here? Where did you come from? Why did you come here to/on Earth? What does it all mean? Too heavy, or too beautiful? It’s always 50/50 with you, right? One more week to think, and then it may/will…

Superfoods Made Simple

Google “superfoods” and you’ll come up with almost as many lists as the internet has web pages. There is no definition of what a superfood is, but at least the European Union knows what it isn’t. EU law prohibits using the term “superfood” on any label attached to a food that has not been shown by independent scientific study to have an established medical benefit. So unless a food cures a certain condition, it doesn’t qualify in Europe. If only the Internet was ruled by such a clause. On the internet, one can find so-called superfoods that carry all sorts of health claims, from flatter tummies to healthier hearts. And the search results include some pretty exotic names. Boku Juice,…

The Best Baseball in Town

The blue and white sign out front of Zesto’s said they had the “best cheeseburgers in town.” It never really mattered whether this was true or not. What mattered was that hundreds of thousands of visitors to Rosenblatt Stadium every summer for the College World Series saw that sign and could believe it. The advertising seemed honest because the advertising was old. Perched just south of the stadium entrance, Zesto’s looked like small-town America. There were picnic tables out front and walk-up windows nearly papered over with handwritten signs advertising dip cones and sundaes. Little more than a shack, it looked like the sort of place people want the best burgers in town to come from. Rosenblatt Stadium wasn’t much…

Choosing your CWS team

With Creighton out of the NCAA Tournament, bounced in extra innings by Georgia Sunday, it’s time for the Omaha rite of summer: Choosing a CWS school to randomly back for a week. There are a lot of familiar faces among the teams to advance from the first round. Florida, UC Irvine, North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Virginia, Oregon State, Stanford and Arizona State are all still alive. No. 8 seed Rice was the only national seed not to make it out of the first round while last year’s darlings, TCU, and near perennial fixture Miami won’t be making the trip to Omaha this year either. But rooting for the usual powerhouses isn’t much fun. If we’re all supposed to be…

Cosmic Forecast, June 9-June 15

The Full Moon on June 15th is conjunct the North Node (this lifetime’s karma) and the Hunab Ku (the center of the Milky Way Galaxy and the god of the Maya). This sets the stage for the individual and collective karma lining up around December 23, 2012, when the Earth will be where the Moon is now. What do you think we deserve? MOJOPOPlanetPower.com GEMINI (5.21-6.21) In a week, your other self shall speak. The Full Moon on the 15th is at 24 degrees Sagittarius, while the Sun is conjunct the South Node (which is your past life, the Dragon’s Head; where you came from) in Gemini, looking right at you. What have you accomplished during this…

Bulldogs, Beavers await Jays in NCAA Tourney

Bring on the Bulldogs. The newly minted Missouri Valley Tournament champion Creighton Bluejays (44-14) will face Georgia (31-30) on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Jays earned the second seed in the Corvallis, Ore., regional and got a fairly manageable draw if you want to think big and consider Creighton’s chances of making it back home for the College World Series. Georgia’s near .500 record is a bit deceiving considering that the SEC placed seven schools in the 64-team field, but the Bulldogs did end the season in a bit of slump, going 4-7 over their last 11 regular season games before losing to Florida in the SEC Tournament semi-finals. Should Creighton…
