Cosmic Forecast, Oct. 25-31

Welcome into Scorpio. Happy Full Moon in Taurus — in opposition to the Sun conjunct Saturn — at 2:49 (Omaha time) on Moonday afternoon, October 29th. If your responsibilities (Saturn) allow you to see a break in sight, I’d party ’til the cows come home on Halloween night! Use your imagination. Wha’chu gonna be? Yours truly, your Golden Dragon, Michael DeLyon, Michael P.

h SCORPIO (10.23-11.22)  AUM… Saturn just entered Scorpio for 3 long, hard, arduous years. Saturn deals with maturity, the past, traditions and the tried and true. The only way to get over on Saturn is through hard work, paying off old debts (of all kinds) and yoga — whatever that means to…

Game-Changer or Not

Put it this way, when Taylor Martinez is good, he’s very, very good. And when Nebraska’s junior quarterback is bad . . . remember those three interceptions against Ohio State?

But the three interceptions, and a lost fumble when the game had been decided, reflected issues shared by his teammates on both sides of the ball. The 63-38 loss couldn’t be laid solely on his shoulders.

“I think if we can keep him clean, he’s going to make his reads and he’s pretty dang good,” junior offensive tackle Jeremiah Sirles said of Martinez. The Huskers’ 29-28 victory at Northwestern was a case in point, specifically the final 8 minutes and 31 seconds.

Martinez was pretty dang…

Frankenfoods: The Most Important Vote You’ll Never Cast

When I was a kid, — long ago, — we took a summer vacation to Aunt Betty’s in La Crescenta, Calif., just north of Los Angeles.

The first thing I noticed (after the eyeball-searing smog,) was that cousins Dulice and Rob were different from my brother and me, even though we were roughly the same ages. Our cousins acted disconcertingly older. They talked differently, using words like “gnarly” and “groovy,” (honest). And most obviously, they dressed differently.

Dulice, well, tween-age girls in Omaha didn’t look as hot as Dulice did in her tube-tops and short-shorts. Rob wore what he called huarache sandals as he coasted downhill on what he said was a “skateboard.” But I most envied…

Cosmic Forecast, Oct. 18-24

g LIBRA (9.23-10.22)  What a beautiful transit! Heaven on Earth to see/find what our dreams are worth. Thanks for being so beautiful, so cordial and sooooo sweet! ’Til next we meet… Here comes Venus. Let Venus come between us.

h SCORPIO (10.23-11.22)  Saturn has just entered Scorpio, hand-in-hand with Mercury. Use your maturity and the fruits of your experience to school your brain/intellect and/or contemplate who you want to be socially/sexually/financially in this 3-D world we seemingly share, during these next 3 years as Saturn continues its transit through Scorpio. It’s your turn next. Put/bet it all on black 13 (Pluto) and give ’er a spin after initiating (you[’ll] know what!) on the 27th. Good…

Taking a Hit

Consider it a life-lesson for the Nebraska football team.

“Sometimes in life you have to get hit in the mouth to pick up your resolve and get back to the realization that it’s ‘not just going to happen to me, for whatever reason,’ ” coach Bo Pelini said during his weekly news conference on the Monday before the Northwestern game.

“You’ve got to earn it. You get what you earn in this world.”

Two weeks before, the Huskers were hit in the mouth, and not just figuratively speaking, at Columbus, Ohio, in the form of a 63-38 loss to Ohio State.

The 63 points were the fourth-most ever allowed by Nebraska, and painfully reminiscent of…

New Home for the Lancers

The Omaha Lancers got off to a slow start to the 2012-13 season, going 1-5 in the team’s first six games but that record comes with a caveat: The Lancers have yet to play a home game.

That changes on Oct. 26 when the Lancers host conference and in-state rival the Tri-City Storm at 7:05 p.m. in the first sporting event at the brand new Ralston Arena. The new facility, which will also host UNO basketball and Omaha Beef football this season, seats 4,000 for hockey games and will usher in a new era for the 26-year old franchise.

The Lancers will also take part in Omaha’s first outdoor hockey showcase, Mutual of Omaha’s Battles on Ice…

God Didn’t Make the World

[Part two of a two-part column. Part one is viewable at ]]

Years back, during my record-producing days in Los Angeles, I experienced a particularly rewarding morning. I arrived early for an all-day session at Westlake Audio’s Studio C on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. Studio C has seen the creation of any number of hugely successful records. At the time, it was also being used by Quincy Jones, Bruce Swedien and Michael Jackson to produce Bad, the follow-up to Michael’s Thriller album. They were on hiatus, which gave me the opportunity to use C for a few days.

I had requested that the control room be voiced, which means adjusting the sound of the wall-enclosed…
