Grab Your Nuts this Christmas

With the holiday season in full swing, no dearth of sweets and treats adorn the hearth. Christmas cookies of dubious design and questionable ingredients (How do they get that bright green frosting color, anyway?); rich and glorious fudge from somebody’s aunt; those sugary, ribbon-shaped sequential delights; high fructose corn syrup candy canes and then there’s the “Omigod-I-can’t-believe-they-sent-us-another-one” rum-soaked fruitcake, pried from the tin and bespeckled with plasticine pebbles of colored what. It’s easy to inhale a couple thousand calories even before the spiked eggnog. The junk-food stress we put on the body during the holidays is enormous: sugar, fat and chemicals.

It’s not crazy. It’s nuts. But believe it or not, even in this splendid season of overindulgence,…

Cosmic Forecast, Dec. 8-Dec. 14

Please enjoy the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on Saturday, the 10th. Please remember that Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, is still retrograde ’til after the 13th. Please remember that that doesn’t mean everything is gonna be fixed (hunky dory) by then. What it means is that from then on, you’ve got a chance to fix it.

Hart-beat for Healing

Mickey Hart is a world famous musician. He owns acres of gold and platinum records merited across six decades of world-class music-making. He is perhaps most recognized as a longtime member of the Grateful Dead and with drummer Bill Kreutzmann formed the daunting duo known affectionately by Deadheads as the “rhythm devils.” The name persisted and that musical offshoot became its own recording entity.

His career is far more expansive than that, however. Rhythm and music are in his soul. His father was also a world-class drummer and Mickey embraced the beat early on. Beyond music played with the Dead and various other permutations, beyond numerous soundtracks and film scores, (including landmark work for Francis Ford Coppola featured…

Cosmic Forecast, Dec. 1-Dec. 7

Happy December. Mercury is retrograde ’til after the 13th. Try not to sign or commit to anything, and try to keep your sense of humor ’til after then. That’s my/our Zen ’til we meet again… Your friend, MOJOPO

Renew, research and review your past while holding onto your tongue ’til after Mercury retrograde’s last gasp is done, on December 13th. We suffer more from what comes out of our mouths than what goes into ’em. Listen/hear what I…

Such Great Heights

Something special has happened at Morrison Stadium this fall. Back when summer was ending the Creighton men’s soccer team was expected to be very good.

Now with winter beginning – and the Jays one win away from the program’s fourth appearance in the College Cup – Creighton might be considerably better than “very good.” Creighton might be great.

That’s what we’ll find out Saturday afternoon at Morrison Stadium when the second-seeded Jays host No. 7 South Florida with a trip to college soccer’s version of the Final Four on the line. It is likely the biggest home game in program history.

Creighton has reached these heights before, making the College Cup in 1996 and 2000…

Cosmic Forecast, Nov. 24-Nov. 30

Thanksgiving is a counting of heads past the sign of the great death, Scorpio. More beings leave their bodies during Scorpio than any other sign. Since the beauty of astrology implies reincarnation, let’s wish pleasant journeys to the departed souls and say congratulations to those still embodied, who can still accomplish anything they (can) dream.

i SAGITTARIUS (11.23-12.21)  I know you’re chomping at the bit, but you gotta wait a month, and that’s it! Mercury just retrograded at 20 degrees Sagittarius on the New Moon in Sagittarius, around midnight on Thanksgiving, particularly affecting Sagittarians born around December 10th. In addition, your ruler Jupiter finally moves direct on Christmas Day. Did you hear the one about…

Bugs in Your Body

You’re only one-tenth the person you think you are. The vast majority of the cells that make up your body are not human. You thought your body was your own, eh? You think you’re one hundred percent human, right? Oh, sure, every once in a while a minor bacterial or viral species may cause a problem but you just attack that population with antibiotics, antivirals or some immune system booster and it’s back to business as usual.

The laughable reality is that you don’t own your body if you simply go by population numbers. If squatters’ rights existed, your body would be the property of the hundred trillion foreign cells that make up the physical terrain known as…
