Your Cosmic Forecast, April 28-March 4

Happy New Moon in mid-Taurus on May 2nd/3rd. Time to plant it into the fertile Earth, to find what your dreams are worth. The Goddess holds the silver cup, as those who enjoy life drink it up. Beauty is all around us; once it's found us to be more effective than invective. Sing nicely, boys and girls. You give love, you get love. You don't, you won't. Art, music, dance and love... — MOJOPOPlanetPower.com * TAURUS (4.21-5.20) AUM. Your holy word is heard on Tuesday, May 2nd/3rd, the New Moon at 13 degrees Taurus. Take a sabbatical. There are no astrological aspects — right after the new Moon on the 3rd, it goes void of course. Think of…

Friday eve early and wake up Saturday late with a BANG! Hey, if that's your THANG, the aspects don't improve for a while so…

Baseball Legends Christen Werner Park

* Has there ever been a better battery in the history of Omaha baseball than George Brett and Bob Gibson? The pair of Hall of Famers opened Werner Park — one day after the scheduled debut was rained out — in what had to be the most talent-rich first pitch in the city’s history. Maybe there was a barnstorming team, led by a Babe Ruth or Satchel Paige or someone of the ilk, that visited Omaha in the early 20th Century that could’ve come close for pitcher-catcher star power but Gibson and Brett both have Omaha ties. Gibson, of course, was a star at Creighton University while Brett spent the 1973 season with the hometown Royals. It was an odd…

Kansas City Royals legend George Brett was on hand to celebrate the opening of the Omaha Storm Chasers’ Werner Park over the weekend.
Have a Ball

Riders on fiberglass mounts gently bobbed up and down on a candy-coated carousel down the left field line as the Omaha Storm Chasers’ Danny Duffy anointed Werner Park Saturday night with a right-down-the-middle called strike to Nashville Sounds second baseman Eric Farris. Basketballs bounced on a court beyond the left-center gap later in the third when top prospect Mike Moustakas doubled home Eric Hosmer, another player perhaps not long for the minors, as the duo joined Duffy in becoming answers to trivia questions on the subjects of first pitch, first RBI and first run scored in ballpark history. Whiffle balls whiffled beyond the center field wall three hours and fifteen minutes after Hall of Famer George Brett lobbed a ceremonial…

A Tale of Two Ballparks

Change is sometimes hard to swallow. One of the new Reuben sandwiches you can eat while watching the newly-rebranded Omaha Storm Chasers at the newly-built Werner Park is not. And that’s the price of progress. The old and familiar is crowded out by the new and improved. It’s always difficult to gauge how this will be received. Can the lingering flavor of Rosenblatt Stadium be slathered over by the latest designer mustards or washed away with a wider array of beers? Is convenience more powerful than nostalgia? Omaha will begin to find out over the next seven days with the opening of Werner Park on Apr. 16, followed by the debut of TD Ameritrade Park four days later. If New…

DJ Scotty Boy
3 UP 3 Down with DJ Scotty Boy

April 14 DJ Scotty Boy with Bam Bam Buddha, Rhythm & Flux, and DJ Shif-D Whiskey Tango, 311 S. 15th St. $10, $5 for ONL Card holders, 9 p.m., 402.934.4874, whiskeytangoomaha.com Did you know there's a DJ Times Magazine? And did you know DJ Scotty Boy has been in their Top 10 for three years running? I didn't either, but there are a lot of things you learn on an artist's Facebook page. As a nationally touring DJ, he's staked a reputation on his own brand of mash up, something he's lent his home city's name to — that being the Sin City itself, Las Vegas. And while Omaha's club culture might be just in its starting stages, Scotty Boy's…
