Junk Food or Junk Fuel? Both are bad news.

Pushing their pipedream versions of renewable energy, energy independence and national security, Congress and the White House gave us the current law that subsidizes the ethanol industry (and others). It was called the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The disastrous results of that federal foray into capitalist cronyism include our current crisis surrounding ethanol production and the price of corn in the face of a Hundred-Year drought; just after facing last year’s Hundred Year flood.

With a field corn shortfall and crops failing at record pace, Congress is pretending they are actually doing something about it. There are rumblings in Washington of cutting back on the Federal mandate requiring more billions of gallons of ethanol to be dumped…

Healthcare with Legs

In showbiz, when a play or a movie has box-office longevity, we say it has “legs.” The same could be said for traditional medical therapies that have lasted for thousands of years. When we consider that early hunter-gatherers probably noted the good effects of some plants they ate and the bad effects of others, we can reason that herbology has roots (pun intended) going back at least two million years. And if the first human to soothe pain by rubbing where it hurts probably lived in a cave, it’s fair to say therapeutic massage predates buildings. Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, is over four thousand years old. Written descriptions of traditional medicine date back at least that far.

Cosmic Forecast, July 26-Aug. 1

Greetings, solar worshippers! Time to emerge from your domicile (ruled by Cancer) and/to catch the Sun’s smile. The Sun is finally in Leo. There are little details sprinkled throughout astrological lore, often rich in reflective wisdom. For instance, the sign of “Aquarius, the water bearer” isn’t actually a “water” sign. There’s often a truth hidden within such enigmas. One might wonder why the “season of the sun” (summer) would start with the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon. It’s because the Sun is too hot and powerful during Cancer, prompting us to stay indoors. So, now what’s your new/next excuse? We are now in the Year of the Dragon, which relates to Leo. Time to/for double…

Watermelon: Nature’s Gatorade and… Viagra?

Deep in the heat of summer with no relief in sight the body gets desperate for help. Look no farther than the humble watermelon to help you make it through the plight. With the temperature soaring and even the slightest exertion seeming to bring exhaustion, watermelon is the remedy to reach for in the heat. It can replenish and refresh and just might save your life by fighting off heat stroke. And the only side effects watermelon has are all good.

There are over a thousand varieties of watermelon, all of which trace back in some way to sub-Saharan Africa in origination. The most common varieties grown and consumed in the United States have a red, yellow or…

There are no mistakes…it just seems like it during Mercury’s retrograde phases. Good luck!

I Read the News Today. Oh, Boy.

Time again to catch up on recent news items that affect you and your wellbeing.

And don’t let the bedbugs bite. If you’re one of millions of travelers heading out on the road for vacation this summer and plan to stop at a motel, you’ve likely already heard horror stories about bedbugs. We’re told to inspect for telltale signs of infestation: black smudges in the cracks of mattresses, etc. But investigators have found that the number one dirtiest item in a motel room is the TV remote. More nasty bacteria were found on that item than on any other. Next were the bedside light switches. For the remote, a simple solution is to carry a clear plastic Ziploc…
