Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have brought a modern feel to the warm analog sounds of classic soul and funk, providing their own imprint on the golden era of Motown and Stax Records. The group is preparing to release their fourth album, Give the People What They Want, this August and the lead single "Retreat!" is a sultry, mid-tempo soul shaker. Jones is the powerful center for this ensemble of horns, gritty guitar and steady-groovin' backbeat. Jones herself was discovered by the band that would become the Dap-Kings during a recording session as she sung back-up on a song sung by soul icon Lee Fields. Since then, Jones and the Dap-Kings have released four funk-soul platters highlighted by 2005's Naturally. While Jones takes this band to the top, the rock-solid players behind her hold their own, notably playing backing band on Amy Winehouse's breakthrough Back In Black album.
