Pick: Marcella Marathon Reading

Oct. 6
Marcella Marathon Reading
Benson Branch Library, 6015 Binney Street
1-6 pm, more information at http://www.facebook.com/events/343920705696714/

Marcella was the revolutionary novel written in 1973 about a young Kansas girl’s emotional transition into womanhood during World War II. The work was groundbreaking because it was the first English-written novel to use female autoeroticism as its core theme. On October 6th, Les Femmes Folles, a group curated by Sally Deskins that aims to bring attention to Midwestern female artists of all mediums, is celebrating the book’s reprint by organizing a marathon reading at the Benson Branch Library from 1:00 until 6:00pm. The author, Marilyn Coffey, will start the reading and be followed by volunteers. If you’re interested in reading at the event, email Sally at sallydeskins@yahoo.com. The event is free and open to the public.
