Pick: Counting Crows

July 28th
Counting Crows w/ We Are Augustines, Field Report and Kasey Anderson & the Honkies
Pinewood Bowl Theater, 3201 South Coddington Ave., Lincoln
8 p.m., $25 to $110, pinewoodbowltheater.com

The Pinewood Bowl Theater will start its summer concert series by welcoming California alternative icons Counting Crows, who are headlining the Outlaw Roadshow. The band, fronted by the fashionably-dreadlocked Adam Duritz, made its first big impression with 1993's smash album August & Everything After. "Mr. Jones", "A Long December" and "Hanginaround" all became alternative pop radio staples, while "Omaha" hit big in this area for obvious reasons. The band is currently out supporting a covers record, Underwater Sunshine. Meanwhile, openers We Are Augustines are making their own rise, up from the ashes of their previous incarnation, Pela. The New York band haunts the same baroque pop scene of bands like the National and Arcade Fire, though We Are Augustines embellish their delicate sound with much less ornate instrumentation.
