New boutique brings unique shopping options to Papillion

Some brilliant ideas come out of nowhere. For longtime friends Lisa Staudt and Amy Zebert, co-owners of OoLaLa! L.A. Boutique in Papillion, it came from inspiration and passion. “Amy and I love fashion and shopping and retail. My sister runs a boutique in Grand Island, and we went there and I said, ‘Look at this! We could do this.’” And they did just that. On September 1, 2010, OoLaLa! was born. The store carries everything from apparel to jewelry to shoes, intimates and even wine glasses for get-togethers with gal-pals. Staudt and Zebert created the store’s theme as well as the color scheme of pink and zebra stripes. As for the name, Staudt credits Zebert’s niece for coming up with it. The L.A. boutique part of the name comes from Lisa and Amy’s initials, as well as the West Coast style the store exudes. It is also where the owners and store manager, Mandy Stovie, do the quarterly buying for the store. “It’s fun,” Staudt says, “It’s a little overwhelming and nerve-wracking, but fun.” As far as what sticks out to them, it’s usually the unique pieces no one else has that “pop out.” While they pay attention to trends and what sells, unique items still fill the store, especially with accessories. Among the pieces that stand out are the coveted MissMe jeans, Betsey Johnson totes, Havianna flip flops, and Rock & Republic denim. “When we go to market, we have a few brands in mind that we’ve seen from shopping in different cities,” Staudt explains. The ultimate goal of the store, according to Staudt, was to create a place for residents of the city and surrounding areas to shop and get a taste of West Coast style in the form of a local boutique. Omaha has a slew of boutiques to choose from, ranging in both style and price-point. In Papillion, however, it’s more of a rarity. “We wanted to bring something unique to Papillion. It knows nothing but chain stores and not really boutiques. If someone wants a great pair of jeans, they have to drive all the way to the malls in Omaha,” explains Staudt. The various styles and brands of denim sell very well, as do casual tops that can be taken from day to night seamlessly. But no outfit is complete without the perfect accessories, and Staudt knows it. “Accessories are huge for us. They make up about 30 percent of our inventory.” Whether you’re a girl who loves wedges and platforms, or one who prefers comfy flats, OoLaLa! has you covered. They have oversized beach-style totes, studded and fringed bags or smaller clutches for a night on the town. And Husker fans need not worry: there are several styles of T-shirts to show your fandom. The personal styles of the three employees and two owners are reflected, but not limited to, what you see in the store. Stovie describes her personal style as “casual, yet unique and modern.” The owners and Stovie are inspired by the relaxed but glamorous California aesthetic. Naturally, they look forward to the summer trends of shorts and the simplicity of sundresses. To officially announce their arrival, OoLaLa! will have a grand opening June 3-5. There will be sales, and local DJs Pat and JT of Q 98.5 will be there. OoLaLa! LA. Boutique is located at the northwest corner of 72nd Street and Highway 370 in Papillion. Store hours are Mon.-Wed., 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thurs. 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Fri. 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Call 402.614.7779 for more information.
