Daily Grub Cookbook
Elle Lynch, former chef and owner of Daily Grub, published her first cookbook, DG at Home: The Favorites. Lovers of the restaurant that lasted only a year have been longing for Elle’s creative take on vegan food. DG at Home features recipes for eight Daily Grub favorites including the ancho cashew cream, pepita spread, black bean soup with avocado crema (my secret addiction) and bahn mi, among others.  Aside from the incredible recipes, home cooks will get lost in the beautiful photography of Justin Limoges and Daniel Muller, whose images adorn the books pages. Iowa Second in the Nation for Local Food
The 2012 Locavore Index ranks states who have the best access to local food. Iowa is second in the nation right behind Vermont. Nebraska isn’t far behind coming in ahead of Colorado, Massachusetts, and Oregon among others at number 12. Using U.S. Department of Agriculture and Census data, the sustainable ag. advocacy group, Strolling of the Heifers, measures the per-capita presence of Community-Supported Agriculture opportunities and Farmers Markets, both of which they use as an indication of the demand and availability of locally-produced food.

If your local produce purchase dwindles by mid-week, Midtown Crossing offers a solution. Food Day Omaha
Food Day Omaha organizers are seeking applications for booths. The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. as part of the nationwide effort to promote healthy, affordable, real food. Organizers are seeking informational booths that focus on eating real, children’s activities and cooking demonstrations. The event will be at the Aksarben Farmers Market on 67th Avenue and Mercy Rd.
