Homer’s to close Orchard Plaza store

Homer's Music is closing one of its two stores in mid-September. The local record store's Orchard Plaza location, 2457 South 132nd St., will close September 10th, according to a Homer's Music press release.

General Manager Mike Fratt attributes the closing, in part, to the decline of the 132nd and West Center Road retail sector, adding that sales are up for the year at Homer's Old Market location, 1210 Howard St.

The closing news comes as Homer's celebrates the 40th anniversary of opening its first store in 1971. The record retailer is one of the original businesses that started the Old Market's current development.

There will be an ongoing sale of compact discs and vinyl at the Orchard Plaza store leading up to its final day of operations.

This week's Lazy-i column by Tim McMahan will have an in-depth look at this closing and what it means for Omaha's music retail landscape.
