Global, national and local style news

GLOBAL FASH Bookies worldwide (yes, bookies) are finalizing bets on who will succeed John Galliano, the recently ousted head of French fashion house Christian Dior. If the rumors are true, Riccardo Tisci, head of Givenchy, seems to be the best bet overall to replace Galliano. British style icon Alexa Chung is set to release a second collection in collaboration with retailer Madewell. Chung’s first collection with Madewell sold out quickly, so shoppers should stand at attention for the collaboration’s fall 2011 release. NATIONAL FASH For the newly engaged (and newly-knighted bridesmaids): Got the bridal boutique blues? No worries, as the newest trend in retail is branching into bridal territory. The newest member of the Anthropologie-Urban Outfitters family is an online bridal boutique called BHLDN (bhldn.com). Madison, Wisc.-based online retailer Shopbop (shopbop.com) also added a bridal boutique to their online store. In related news, bridesmaids just participated in a collective sigh of relief, as the thought of re-wearable bridesmaid dresses seems to be coming closer to reality and farther from theory. LOCAL FASH Old Market boutique Coriander (1028 Howard St., located in the Passageway) is sponsoring an opening for Brandy Brandt's spring dress line, blithe on Friday, March 25. The event starts at 7 p.m., and includes a drawing to win a dress made for you by the designer with purchase of a $1 ticket to participate. On Sunday, April 3 a fashion show fundraiser, Fashion at the Max! will take place at The Max, a dance club located in downtown Omaha (1417 Jackson St.). The event kicks off at 9 p.m., and is best described as a mix of fashion, drag and live performances. Attendees can expect a $5 donation at the door with proceeds going to Camp Kindle, a summer camp with a goal to improve the quality of life for young people infected with or affected by HIV and AIDS. Sarah Lorsung Tvrdik is a stylist, costumier, wife and freelance writer based in Omaha, Nebraska. Her style blog can be found at fashflood.com.
