Booked: Free Poetry and a Free eBook

* U.S. Poet Laureate W.S. Merwin will appear at the Joslyn Art Museum at 22nd and Dodge in the Witherspoon Concert Hall this Thursday, April 28th at 5:30 p.m. He’ll read from his works and take questions from the audience. The event is free and open to the public. * This Saturday, April 30, marks the 29th anniversary of the annual Neihardt Spring Conference held in Bancroft, Neb. This year’s theme is “Biography: A Life as Written,” and will feature Tim Anderson’s work on the Neihardt biography and Roger Welsch's new work Confessions of a Wannabe. Other participants in this year’s conference include historical novelist Dan O’Brien, Native American biographer Dr. R. David Edmunds of the University of Texas, and author Marla Matkin. The event is being held at the Neihardt State Historic Site at 306 West Elm St. in Bancroft. The event starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. For more information, call 1.888.777.4667 or 402.648.3388 or email at neihardt@gpcom.net. * If you’ve got a Kindle and you’re a fan of marketing guru Seth Godin, General Electric will pay for your download of Steven Pressfield’s Do the Work: Overcome Resistance and Get Out of Your Own Way, the latest book from Godin‘s Domino Project publishing line. Just go to amazon.com and you’re in business. The book, which regularly retails for $7.99, is free until May 20. * In other Kindle news, Amazon.com announced last week that later this year Kindle users will be able to go into their local library branches and, assuming its one of the 11,000 participating locations, check out books to read on their Kindle.
