Zoo 40th & Jon Dee

Lincoln’s historic Zoo Bar celebrates its 40th Anniversary all week, with music in the club and outside. Wednesday night soulful harmonica man, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader James Harman makes his return with sizzling Southern California band The 44s backing him. It’ll be a powerhouse night of spirited, irresistibly danceable blues. Also playing Wednesday are John Nemeth Band and the Sean Benjamin Band. Music begins at 5 p.m.
Thursday, July 4, the Zoo Bar 40th Anniversary sets up a big stage on 14th Street in front of the bar. See complete event details, dos and don’ts at zoobarfestival.com. Thursday’s schedule is Lloyd McCarter (1 p.m.), James Harman & The 44s (3 p.m.), John Primer (5 p.m.), Terrance Simien (7 p.m.), Josh Hoyer & The Shadowboxers (9 p.m.) and Universe Contest (11 p.m.).

Friday, July 5, features the much-anticipated Paladins reunion with Dave Gonzalez (Stone River Boys, Hacienda Brothers) joining Thomas Yearsley and drummer Brian Fahey to crank out their signature, gear-grinding rockabilly. Friday’s schedule is Mezcal Brothers (3 p.m.), Tinsley Ellis (5 p.m.), Junior Brown (7:00 p.m.), The Paladins (9 p.m.), The Self-Righteous Brothers (11 p.m.).

Saturday there’s more fiery guitar power with a rare Midwest appearance by hard-charging guitarist and Grammy winner Dave Alvin & The Guilty Ones (7 p.m.) plus blues-rocker Walter Trout (5 p.m.) and a New Orleans party from Dirty Dozen Brass Band (9 p.m.) Rounding out the day are FREAKABOUT! (1 p.m.), Tijuana Gigolos (3 p.m.) and Sidewalk Chalk (11 p.m.)
Advance tickets are $10 per day or $25 for three days at the bar or etix.com. No advance tickets sold after July 3. Tickets are $13 per day at the gate.

Next week Marcia Ball plays the Zoo Bar Tuesday, July 9, 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $18 advance and $23 day of show.
Austin’s soul-stirring songwriter and stomping guitarist Jon Dee Graham returns to the Zoo Wednesday, July 10, 6-9 p.m., with his band The Fighting Cocks. Graham has made memorable solo appearances at the Zoo with Josh Hoyer and other Lincoln musicians sitting in, but this will be Graham’s electric Austin band. Graham is a three-time Austin Music Hall of Fame inductee and co-founder of The True Believers with Alejandro Escovedo. See jondeegraham.com.
