Watching the Train Wreck, Peace of Sh*t team up for release, show

* Watching the Train Wreck and Peace of Sh*t are teaming for a limited edition lathe-cut 10-inch single on local imprint Fear of Music Records. One side of the record will include songs by both bands, with a screen-printed image on the flip-side. Think of it as a do-it-yourself-style picture disc. The release is limited to 50 copies on vinyl. To celebrate the release, the two garage-punk bands will host a show Saturday, June 18 at O'Leaver's Pub, 1322 South Saddle Creek Road. They will also be selling 10 copies of a lathe-cut single at the show, featuring both bands doing cover songs. The first 10 people to buy the 10-inch will also receive the single. Admission to the 9 p.m. show is $5. Solid Goldberg opens. * Speaking of O'Leaver's, the midtown bar has set Saturday, July 23 as the date for its third annual Omaha Adult Soapbox Derby. The event will pit soapbox racers against each other at Seymour Smith Park, 6802 Harrison St., with a post-race triage center/rock show taking place back at O'Leaver's that night. * DJ KobraKyle is having growing success with his Gettin' Dusty soul music night at The Barley Street Tavern, 2735 North 62nd St., thanks in part to heavy-hitting contributions from guests like Andrew Monson, Eric Ziegler and possible future Gunk guest DJ and local musician, Mr. Solid Goldberg himself, Dave Goldberg. * Those who caught the inappropriately-named hardcore jokesters that we'll call AxCx for their show at The Sandbox, 2406 Leavenworth, earlier this year should count themselves lucky, as they caught one of the band's last shows. Singer/screamer Seth Putnam died June 11 of a heart attack. He was 43. * Recent Sub-Pop Records signees Mister Heavenly have been added to the free Toyota Antics Block Party Friday, August 26 on the parking lot behind The Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. The Hold Steady headline. * Homer's Music is putting on a sidewalk sale at their Old Market location, 1210 Howard, Saturday, June 18. The sale will clear out CD's, vinyl and other items, all for under $1.
