The Lupines unveil new CD

* The Lupines unveil their first EP, Over the Moon, this Friday, January 24th with a release show at O'Leaver's Pub, 1322 South Saddle Creek Road. The band's inaugural release on CD features the latest iteration of garage rock from Brimstone Howl mastermind John Ziegler. The six songs feature bassist Mike Tulis, guitarist Mike Friedman and drummer Javid Dabestani. However, the live set-up is now a mini-Brimstone reunion, as drummer Calvin Retzlaff is once again putting his signature bare-bones rattle behind Zeigler's guitar buzz. Bullet Proof Hearts will also share the bill.

* The final recording sessions of Brimstone Howl are now available, thanks to two garage rock labels. Magic Hour, out now via Certified PR Records, is the final full-band sessions, recorded at Detroit's Ghetto Recorders with garage mastermind Jim Diamond. Meanwhile, Blowhard Deluxe is a more basic look at singer John Ziegler has he bridged the time from Brimstone's dissolution and the formation of his current band the Lupines. That album is out on Deadbeat Records.

* Goodnight Pleasure Adapter. The short-lived synth punk band has called it quits, after playing a final show earlier this month as part of Hear Nebraska's local music compilation release show. The band, fronted by live-wire singer Jeff Ankenbauer, announced their dissolution on their Facebook page. They are featured on Hear Nebraska Volume 2. Here's hoping that Ankenbauer has something else brewing.

* Josh Hoyer and the Shadowboxers' debut self-titled CD is out now and the band is making tracks across the Midwest to promote their music. Hoyer, a Lincoln musician and a Zoo Bar mainstay, spent the last year evolving his blues-rock sound into a big-time soul/rock hybrid complete with horns and back-up singers. The results are smooth, but swinging with just a bit of blues boogie lurking underneath. It's a sound that could elevate Hoyer and his co-horts into one of the busiest acts in Nebraska.
