Saddle Creek announces SXSW showcase

* Hip-hop artists and now DJ Buck Bowen will return to Omaha Thursday, March 8th to take place in Midtown Marauders recurring showcase at the House of Loom, 1012 S. 10th St. Deotis Moore, LateNite Crew and Helix Troy are also set to perform. Bowen was a fixture on both Omaha's indie and hip-hop scenes before moving to California a few years ago. Since moving, he has adding DJing to his repertoire. He will showcase that side of his musical life alongside Brent Crampton Saturday, March 10th, also at House of Loom.

* The Barley Street Tavern, 2735 N. 62nd St., will host a customer appreciation event Friday, April 6th. For a $5 cover, patrons will get free food courtest of Hartland BBQ and free beer. There's also a slate of live music being arranged for the night. The event roughly coincides with the one year anniversary of local singer songwriter Brad Hoshaw assuming booking responsibilities at the cozy Benson dive bar music venue.

* Saddle Creek Records are hosting a showcase at this year's South by Southwest Conference in Austin, Tex.. Big Harp, Icky Blossoms and The Mynabirds will play at Lambert's Friday, March 16th, on a showcase split with the Western Vinyl label. 

* The Mynabirds will be preparing for the release of their sophomore release, Generals, while out in Texas. The album is out June 5th on Saddle Creek Records and was once again recorded by Richard Swift.

*Meanwhile, Icky Blossoms will celebrate their trek to SXSW, as well as the completion of their forthcoming debut album, with a tour kickoff show at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St., Saturday, March 10th. Pony Wars and Midtown Marauders will join the bill, all for the low price of $7. Icky Blossoms just returned from California, where they recorded with TV on the Radio's David Sitek. The album is due out on Saddle Creek.

* Omaha-raised jazz musician Paul Serrato has returned to town after years living in New York and he's brought his latest album, AlterNations, with him. The music is contemporary urban jazz with experimental and progressive twists and turns. Serrato released the album on his Graffiti Productions imprint. The disc is on sale at Homer's Music, 1210 Howard St., and online via
