This weekend, Omahans looking to beat the heat can attend two indoor fashion shows taking place at Nomad Lounge in the Old Market.

A Vanity Affair fashion show will take place Friday, July 15th.  It will benefit the Micah House, an emergency homeless shelter in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Designers such as Dan Richters, Illa Ridder and Jon Portrey will showcase their original designs. There will be live dance, music and magic performances. On Saturday, July 16th Nomad will host Omaha Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer Showcase. This highly anticipated fashion show sets out to show off the debut collections of local up-and-coming talent. It’s free to the public, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and show starting at 8 p.m. Nomad Lounge is located at 1013 Jones Street and attendees can visit omahafashionweek.com for additional information.

Scout and Esoteric Velvet sittin’ in a tree … Running through July 31st, registered users can give online style and cultural publication Esoteric Velvet some Facebook love by ‘liking’ their page (facebook.com/esotericvelvet). Next is Omaha Fashion Magazine’s Style, Shoot and Send Photo Contest. Calling for local stylists, photographers, salons, designers and models to come together to build their “dream team” and enter for a chance to have their winning look featured on the cover of the August edition of Omaha Fashion Magazine.  Along with an ad valued at $2,500, winners will receive $2,000 cash and a $500 voucher to Nomad Lounge. The deadline for entries is August 1st, and submissions must feature the design of a 2011 Omaha Fashion Week designer.
