Cutting Room for June 28

  • Not content to simply proclaim himself “Yeezus” and gift his spawn with the name North West, the most humiliating non-Zappa nomenclature, Kanye West isn’t willing to give up another project. According to the rapper/messiah (rapsiah?), he’s still the “creative director” on the film adaptation of The Jetsons. To be fair, if anyone is capable of breathing life into a cartoon, it’s the guy who makes out with Kim Kardashian.
  • Every time someone lets Roland Emmerich out of director jail, like they did with White House Down, he gets to running his yapper about sequels that will never happen. Or so it seemed, until Fox announced that July 3, 2015, there will be an Independence Day sequel. Now, I know what you’re wondering, and no I don’t know if Judd Hirsch will be back. Will Smith won’t, but supposedly both Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will pencil it into their difficult schedules, what with the former being on a canceled TV show and the latter presumably staccato mumbling to himself in a corner somewhere.
  • Although I refuse to care about the Taken series after the Liam Neeson franchise didn’t go with Taken Too as the title for the sequel, there’s good news for fans. For a mere $20 million, Neeson will return again. So here’s your chance movie guys: call the third one Tooked or Takened and all is forgiven.
  • Rick Santorum, former presidential hopeful and continued sweater-vest fetishist, wants to be in the pictures! Or at least, wants to make them, as he is the CEO of EchoLight Studios, which is gonna make Jesus movies! Basically, the company is dedicated to “honest, uplifting content” and promises not to “water down the truth.” I’m hoping they can’t water down the truth because it has been turned to wine.
