Cutting Room for August 24

  • Remember how you were just thinking, “How can I go on living without the prospect of at least one more Rambo movie?” Good news, my depressed and strangely Stallone obsessed amigo! There’s a script for Rambo: Last Stand, which has been likened to the western classic, Unforgiven. I can only assume this comparison is based on a similar number of craggy faces, wrinkles and AARP/NRA members. We can’t stabilize our own economy, but we’ve got five Rambo movies. Suck on that, world!

  • Not that you should, because you shouldn’t, but if you were going to remake The Wild Bunch, you shouldn’t have director Tony Scott do it. The original orgy of Western violence by Sam Peckinpah does not lend itself to Scott’s edit-happy, “What-the-hell-am-I-looking-at” direction. So, as you have probably guessed, this is exactly what’s happening.

  • In additional Scott family news, Tony’s brother Ridley Scott dropped a mega-huge sci-fi news bombshell: He’s directing another Blade Runner film. Is it a prequel? Is it a sequel? Is it just a film set in the same universe? All of these questions pale in comparison to the most important one: Can he promise it won’t suck?

  • Bradley Cooper will no longer be the lead in The Crow, the remake of the 1994 cult classic. Instead, the posterchild for Goths everywhere will still be resurrected, with either Mark Wahlberg or Channing Tatum wearing the pancake makeup and eyeliner, with best money on Wahlberg because people know who the hell he is. After years of reporting the name, I’m still proud to say I have no idea what a Channing Tatum is or if it hurts.
