Continental Drift Music Festival sets a course for River West Park

* All Young Girls are Machine Guns will unveil a new band line-up at a free show Friday, June 1st at Side Door Lounge, 3530 Leavenworth St. Singer Rebecca Lowry and longtime bassist Travis Sing are now joined by guitarist Will Meinen and a trio of Doo-Wop style back-up singers, Liz Webb, Kristin Pikop and Molly Welsh. Skypiper, In Love and Field Club are also on the bill.

*Continental Drift Music Festival is the latest overnight camping festival to set a date at River West Park, 23101 West Maple Road. The day-long festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd and is presented by Onken-Stein Records. The $15 entry fee, which includes a camping permit for that night, covers a slate of music starting at 3 p.m. and lasting until 10 p.m. The event seeks to highlight bands on the Onken-Stein label, with Ten O'Clock Scholars, Fork in the Road, Death of a Taxpayer and PG-13 signed to the label. The Big Deep and the Whipkey Three are also on the bill.

* The Hope Center will host the second annual Hip Hope Fest Saturday, June 2nd at Hope Skate, 2200 North 20th St. The concert will feature national acts Trip Lee & PRo and KB with local opener J. Crum. The 7 p.m. concert will be $15 at the door or $12 in advance, with the proceeds benefitting the Hope Center.

* The Nebraska Trumpet Ensemble wil lbe joined by percussionist John Scofield for a concert Sunday, June 3rd at the O'Donnell Auditorium on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus, 51st and Huntington in Lincoln. The 3 p.m. concert will feature several popular music pieces including "Theme from 'The Simpsons'" and "Flight of the Bumblebee". Tickets are $15.

*Les Femmes Folles blogger and Reader contributor Sally Deskins will host a Momma Artist Performance Panel Thursday, June 7th at the House of Loom, 1012 South 10th St., starting at 5 p.m. editor Josie Loza will lead the discussion portion of the event, before performances by Tilly & the Wall's Jamie Pressnall and spoken-word performances by several local poets. While the event is free, the organizers will be accepting donations of baby items, toiletries and other such items to give to the Lydia House for Women and Children.
