It’s a topic visited here many times. But a recent article in The Atlantic, titled “Lies, Damned Lies, and Medical Science: MUCH OF WHAT MEDICAL RESEARCHERS CONCLUDE IN THEIR STUDIES IS MISLEADING, EXAGGERATED, OR FLAT-OUT WRONG,” has led us down this path once more. I’ve just spent hours scanning the web for a shred of … truth? We’re in the midst of what the techno-pharmaceutical-industrial complex calls “flu season” and I’m trying to get to the bottom of things. I’m insulted by the constant number-waving in mainstream media that claims 36,000 people die from influenza each year in the United States. We already know that the Centers for Disease Control’s own statistics confirm that the figure is inflated by a…

Who’s ready for an early January weekend jaunt to frosty Winnipeg next year? If you’re a UNO hockey fan that trip could be a reality as the Mavs and the University of North Dakota are reportedly close to finalizing a deal to play a game in Manitoba’s capital city Jan. 7, 2012. I’ll confess to not knowing much about Winnipeg other than it’s about three hours north of Grand Forks and therefore likely colder than Omaha, but I did spend some time on the city’s tourism website to cull some valuable facts. Winnipeg is the coldest city in the world with a population greater than 500,000 meaning more people consciously choose to be miserable for months there than anywhere else.…

Cosmic Forecast for Jan. 19-26Welcome into Aquarius, the sign of the unexpected, unusual and bizarre. To 90 percent of humanity the season of winter is just one loooong boooring Capricoooorn that lasts until spring. Ten percent of humanity responds to the Uranian vibration and half of them (will) mess it up. Otherwise the other 90 percent would jump on board — ’cause the unusual, eccentric and bizarre is soooo much mooore fun! MojoPoPlanetPower.com AQUARIUS (1.21-2.19) Expect everything to light up celestially. Jupiter and your esoteric ruler, the planet Uranus, are conjunct all of 2011. Now in the final degrees of Pisces (the Dreamer) and finishing 2011 retrograding back to 0 degrees Aries (the Initiator) by next New Year’s, so you can start…

A recent article in Newsweek drew attention to the Great Food Divide in America. I emphasize “America” because our concerns about food are relatively different from the concerns of the other seven billion eaters on the planet. Americans worry more about what we’re eating. Much of the rest of the world worries about if they’re eating. That’s not to say that all Americans are well fed. We must continue to solve the issues of hunger and food insecurity. However, much of the solution is not about provision or even poverty. It’s not that the planet cannot produce enough food for our population. It can. In fact, the planet already produces more than twice the amount needed. Distribution is the real…

The public spoke and, after thinking about it, the Big 10 didn’t listen. Conference officials announced last week that the league would keep its universally panned division names of Leaders and Legends for at least the 2011 season. League commissioner Jim Delany decided to review the decision back in December and there was legitimate hope that maybe the conference would adopt something normal. Apparently Delany didn’t read the Internet, where coming up with more ridiculous sounding names became a bit of a sports blog parlor game. SEC fans have always poked fun at the Big 10 as a stodgy, out of touch conference, but now everyone’s piling on. As the newcomers here, I’m not sure how we’re supposed to defend…

After this week let’s transcend onto base 11 (Aquarius) to get to Heaven. Heavy Spiritual changes ahead. See you next week when once again we speak. Until then, check out your year ahead at MOJOPOPlanetPower.com CAPRICORN (12.22-1.20) You’ve got two weeks to get it together to handle any weather, whether…

Sometimes it’s the simple things. Baby steps. At a time when many feel overwhelmed by New Year resolutions requiring us to do something, here is a list of very simple (relatively) changes that could reap major health benefits. Rather than adding things to do, avoid things on the list and 2011 will be a better year. Things to avoid, Number 10: The Sofa Wii game consoles notwithstanding, the sofa (and all things you plant your backside on) makes the list of things to avoid in 2011. Inactivity kills mind and body. A small increase in movement will reward you with health benefits. Something as mundane as fidgeting can burn calories and mean the difference between fit or fat, according to…
