Rockin’ Guitars

Tinsley Ellis rocks The 21st Saloon Thursday, Aug. 9, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Ellis is on the road in support of his eleventh CD release, Speak No Evil (Alligator). Rolling Stone magazine calls Ellis’ fretboard work “feral blues guitar” adding “non-stop gigging has sharpened his six-string to a razor’s edge...he achieves pyrotechnics that rival early Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton.”

Zoo Bar
Next Wednesday, Aug. 15, Eric Sardinas heats up the Zoo, 6-9 p.m. The hard-to-quantify Sardinas plays blistering old-school slide with a hard-rock aesthetic and a dramatic stage persona. Other shows at the Zoo this week include Tijuana Gigolos Friday, Aug. 10, 5-7 p.m. They just released their latest CD Shotgun. Late night Friday it is The Betties and Dastardly. Saturday, August 11, the youth bands of Academy of Rock are showcased 6-8 p.m. Brad Cordle Band plays at 9 p.m.

HOME for Lavelle White
There’s not always a chance to write about what is going on nationally, but some of the Austin music scene’s best-known women have joined together to help 83-year-old blues woman Lavelle White. She moved to Louisiana to live with a cousin who unfortunately passed away. White returned to Austin with only a few possessions and in need of help. Austin music mainstays including Marcia Ball, Carolyn Wonderland, Susan Antone and Ruthie Foster have created HOME or Housing Opportunities for Musicians & Entertainers to help White, and ultimately to help other Austin musicians in need. For more information check out Facebook.com/HousingOpportunitiesForMusiciansAndEntertainers.
