UNO Art Gallery begins the academic year with two exhibitions: "Avery Mazor: Text Messages and Other Works" and "Artifacts from the Dig & Hanan Shafir: Photographs of Bethsaida." Avery Mazor, assistant professor of art exhibits photographs, prints and paintings exploring a commonality between Christian and Jewish faiths in his exhibit. The “Bethsaida” exhibit includes artifacts from the Bethsaida dig discovered by UNO professor of religion Rami Arav in 1987. International archaelogical photographer Hanan Sharif’s twenty images of the discoveries complement the show as well as a replica of the large stele (commemorative tablet) uncovered at the site. At the fundraiser Thursday evening, Arav and other excavators will remark on their findings and recent 2012 summer dig. Funds raised will support the continued excavation of Bethsaida.
