Neighbor artist-residence at The Harvester Artist Lofts in Council Bluffs, painters James Laurent and Patty Talbert “created a body of work that reflects and enhances each other as artists and as human beings,” Rob Gilmer, RNG Gallery owner said. Laurent’s series reflect his fascination with the zodiac taking on the “universal” theme: “My pieces are a reflection of my experiences with people who have been born under the 12 signs of the zodiac.” Talbert uses techniques inspired by batik, a ritualistic and repetitive process reflective of primitive nature; “I have always been inspired by the elements of african imagery. Because of this strong desire, this body of work was also derived from the word ‘primitive’.”
