Pick: The Fixx

As the synth-dappled textures of New Wave-era pop music continue to filter through a large crop of modern indie rock, it may just be time for London 1980s hitmakers the Fixx to be uncovered again by a whole new audience. Led by the soaring vocals of singer Cy Curnin, the Fixx first gained noticed with 1982's "Red Skies" and then climbed much, much higher on the pop charts with "Saved By Zero" and "One Thing Leads to Another", off of 1983's Reach the Beach. The band's strength lies in pulling back big anthems to crisp, succinct arrangements, calling to mind contemporaries like the Cars and the Police. While the band's output slowed in the 1990s and early 2000s, the Fixx have now coalesced around their early 80s lineup and issued a new album this year called Beautiful Friction.
