Sprawl, an exhibit including work by over 20 area high school students, considers where each student resides throughout the Omaha-Metro area as well as their artistic and personal growth gleamed from the mentorships made in the Kent Bellows Studio Program. "Each person who creates in this studio is a pinpoint on a map. This map is made of the creative atmosphere we have helped fabricate. We can start 1 mile away or 23 miles away, but we still end up in this one spot, The Kent Bellows Studio," stated the curatorial statement written by the students. This exhibit features mixed media work like Anika Bateman of North High School, studying printmaking this summer as well as drawing her favorite Manga characters in pen and ink. Allison Barna of Papillion LaVista High School spent the summer exploring 3-D sculpture with acrylics, slip casting and paper. Said Weston Thomson, Education Manager, this summer’s enrollment was the highest to date of the mentoring programs for high school-age artists to “balance the freedom to create with the guidance of professional mentors to deliver hands-on art experiences that inspire both creative thinking and action.”
