Pick: Snake Island

December 23
Snake Island w/ The Conquerors, Capgun Coup and Hawaii the Band
The Waiting Room Lounge, 6212 Maple St.
9 p.m., $7, onepercentproductions.com

Snake Island hosts Capgun Coup and Kansas City's the Conquerors in a perfect shot of live music before several days of holiday-induced family time. Snake Island continues to evolve their psychedelic blues-punk, adding in mind-expanding noise jams and razor-sharp songcraft in equal measure. The band is currently working on new songs for a future release. Meanwhile Capgun Coup is wrapping up a busy year that saw the indie rockers release their third album, Contextual Doom. The Conquerors play around in the a post-Velvet Underground strain of psych-rock combining the druggy universe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre with a greater sense of ethereal drift.
