Pick: Small Houses

November 8th
Small Houses w/ Field Club, Great American Desert
The Slowdown, 729 North 14th St.
9 p.m., $7, theslowdown.com

Jeremy Quentin plays country-leaning indie folk songs under the name Small Houses. The Michigan-based Quention packs his low-key songs with intimate details and delivers then with a delicate, sweet singing voice. Quentin gently rollicking instrumentals center around finger-picked guitar and banjo. There's a raw, wounded quality to these songs that add to the emotional wallop, as Small Houses draws on a indie sound trailblazed by acts like Bonnie Prince Billy and Sun Kil Moon. Small Houses has made Omaha a regular tour stop the last two years, aligning himself with like-minded Omaha acts like show opener Great American Desert.
