Pick: Red Wanting Blue

January 31
Red Wanting Blue w/ The Whipkey Three
The Waiting Room Lounge, 6212 Maple St.
9 p.m., $10, onepercentproductions.com

Since 1996, Red Wanting Blue has been the epitome of the blue-collar everyman on the independent rock music circuit. The band has honed its straightforward alternative rock from its homebase in Columbus, Ohio, playing up to 200 shows across the country most years. After a decade of independent releases, the band signed up with EMI boutique label, Fanatic Records, who have released the band's last two studio albums. The band's latest is Pick, which came out in early 2012. It's an album dotted with earnest, well-played heartland rock. Singer Scott Terry's gruff, but full voice is the band's highlight. Red Wanting Blue has a sound that's sure to appeal to fans of bands such as the Wallflowers, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam.
