On November 2nd, the Omaha Public Library will be celebrating their 140th anniversary with an open house featuring a large panel exhibit of their history as well as displays from the library’s collections of post cards, lantern slides, cuneiforms, and government documents. Several of the Library’s famous artifacts will be on display along with photos of the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Expo and reproductions of newspaper articles. Visitors will be among the first to get a glimpse of the Celebration Quilt, which reflects not only the history of the Library, but the feelings and values of each individual branch. Throughout the past year, library staff and patrons have worked with fabric artist and quilter Janie York to create the quilt as a visual piece signifying the longevity and community involvement of the Omaha Public Library. Library staff will be in costume and refreshments will be served.
