Filmmaker, speaker, former actress, and women’s advocate, Jennifer Siebel Newsom will be hosting a special screening of her 2011 Sundance documentary, “Miss Representation” at UNO’s Strauss Performing Arts Center. The film explores how the media’s misrepresentations of women contribute to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence while challenging its often disparaging portrayals of women and girls. The film’s interviews with such influential women as Condoleezza Rice, Nancy Pelosi, Rachel Maddow, Margaret Cho, and Gloria Steinem accumulate startling facts and statistics that will leave the audience shaken and armed with a new perspective. Following the screening, Siebel will be initiating a panel to discuss the film and answer questions. Tickets are $10 or $5 for students. Purchase online at http://www.omahawomensfund.org.
