Pick: Hospitality

October 3
Hospitality w/ TEEN
The Waiting Room Lounge, 6212 Maple St.
9 p.m., $10, onepercentproductions.com

Hospitality play an unassuming set of sturdy, guitar-centered indie rock, fronted by the cheerful yawp of singer/guitarist Amber Papini. The band is firmly entrenched in the art and practice of writing pop songs, highlighted by tracks like "Friends of Friends" and "The Right Profession" off their self-titled debut album. That album, released at the start of the year by Merge Records, focuses on the band's trio line-up with a few light horn arrangements and other added in-studio accompaniment. The Brooklyn-based band is comfortable with keeping their pop songs slightly rag-tag and have recorded them just a few notches above lo-fi. It's easy to see how this band ended up on the radar of Superchunk's Mac McCaughan, who runs Merge.
