Pick: Hatebreed

January 28
Hatebreed w/Shadows Fall, Dying Fetus, The Contortionist
Sokol Auditorium, 2234 South 13th St.
6:30 p.m., $15 in advance/$20 day-of-show, onepercentproductions.com

Hatebreed should forever be known as one of the pioneers of the dominant form of popular metal stretching from the mid 90s to now. By combining thrash, Celtic death metal and hardcore punk, Hatebreed helped usher in metalcore and its various subgenres, giving a new generation of metalheads an escape from teenage angst and suburban repression. The band is set to release their sixth studio album, Divinity of Purpose, January 29th, the day after the show. Main support from Shadows Fall and Dying Fetus help show the two sides of Hatebreed. Shadows Fall bear a more glam-metal inspired melodicism that has pushed their own radio-rock success, while Dying Fetus mix of blast beats, intricate guitar riffs and harcore-style breakdowns have endeared the band to death and extreme metal fans.
