Performing Artists Repertory theatre is a non-profit company that was established in July, 2010 by Gordon Cantiello. It was established to share the art of theatre by producing plays and musicals for audiences of diverse ages and cultures. Beehive, a musical celebration of the 1960's, certainly fits that bill. This play features an all female cast singing songs originally sung by women. The play features a range of beloved classic artists including Brenda Lee, the Shangri-las, Dusty Springfield, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. Singing these classic songs is a classic cast that performed Beehive in 1992 at the former Howard Street Tavern in Omaha's Old Market. Four of the six original cast remembers return to this production, which is directed by Gordon Cantiello. Mr. Cantiello is best known for his work in Omaha as producer/director of such shows as Always, Patsy Cline and Suds at the former Howard Street Tavern and Smokey Joes Café at the former Ranch Bowl. With the return of Beehive, Mr. Cantiello is officially back in Omaha, so stop by and say hello this weekend at the Waiting Room and while you're at it enjoy some of the greatest music ever written.
