Fall and Winter Fashions for Men

The temperature has finally turned on us. This means it’s time to pack away the tees, tanks and shorts we’ve been wishfully clinging onto just in case one more scorcher creeps into the forecast. Guys, I cannot stress enough that this DOES NOT mean it’s time to replace the summer threads with sweatpants and pullover hoodies. Take this season transition as an opportunity to upgrade your wardrobe. Let me be your guide to style. I’ve made it easy and scoured what’s hot in the trend circuit to bring you the essentials for fall and winter.

Texture is key. Chunky sweaters and thick knits add visual interest to your look. Cable knits, cashmere and wool are a great start, or try a blazer or trousers in a tweed fabric for a rich take on the season. Jackets with contrasting textures on the body and sleeves also add variety and depth to an outfit.
Blue is the new black. Deep ink shades are a refreshing alternative to classic black. Opt for this hue in strong pieces of outerwear like a pea coat, jacket, hat or scarf. Sometimes you just can’t beat a classic, though. If you fall back into black, go for sleek pieces in tailored silhouettes infused with leather details.

It’s all in the details. It’s the little things like elbow and shoulder patches or a chunky necklace worn in place of a tie that is going to keep you from fading into the background. Pattern on pattern is another surefire way to a smart ensemble. Layering patterns can be intimidating, but fear not. Start with a pant in a neutral shade. Go for a solid colored pant or a patterned slack for more kick. Mix a colorful plaid shirt with an overcoat of a subtler pattern in a neutral color to play it safe. Or go all out by layering varying patterns with button-downs, ties and sweaters. The key to avoid looking clownish is to use pieces in similar, coordinating color families. Throw on a contrasting belt for good measure.

Focus outward. Your outerwear should make a statement. Fur trimmed collars make jackets and coats stand out and add a little bit of luxe as well. Play with proportions for a whimsical take on winter wear. A cropped bomber jacket or a cape-ish oversized coat adds an understated panache.

There is no better time than the present for a reinvention. Try incorporating a few new pieces into your wardrobe rotation this season and your friends and other onlookers will be sure to notice the positive change. Don’t be too ambitious at once, though. Remember to take it one layer at a time. ,
