Jake Bellows debuts song off solo album

* Jake Bellows premiered "I Know You", a song from his debut solo album New Ocean, on Rolling Stone magazine's website. The album comes out Tuesday, August 6th on Saddle Creek Records. The singer, former frontman and songwriter of Neva Dinova, will hit the road for shows in the western United States, though with an album release imminent on the locally-owned Saddle Creek, a big Omaha show shouldn't be too far away.

* Local hip-hop act Purveyor's Of The Conscious Sound released a new music video for their song "Supernova Stature", which will be on the group's new album Lifers 2. The song features performances by group members Jake Dawson, Liz Graham and Nick Holder and was produced by Andy Boonstra. Lifers 2 is available for free at PCSLifers.com. Brett Brooner of Broonamite Photography shot and edited the video, which also features the fire dancing performance of Samantha Mixan from Quixotic Fusion. The group also recently won a vote at the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards summer showcase, earning them the right to kick-off the local stage line-up at this year's Maha Music Festival, Saturday, August 17th at Stinson Park, near 66th and Center streets.

* Local rapper Conchance and producer Downtown James Brown have collaborated on a new single "Frida", out now on Make Believe Recordings. Stream and download the track at soundcloud.com/conchance/frida.

* There was part of Parquet Courts' set that felt perfectly at home inside a DIY art/show space Thursday, June 20th at the Sweatshop Gallery, 2727 North 62nd St. and a big chunk of it that felt like an event that probably will never happen again. The New York band plays a post-garage rant-pop that blitzkriegs by thanks to speedy hooks and breathless sing-speak vocals. The sweat portion of the Sweatshop was in full effect, as kids packed in to see Parquet Courts rip through their set that often reached into Jonathan Richman, Jim Carroll and Mark E. Smith territory. But this wasn't cliff notes, as Parquet Courts are jumping off from those touchstones to create something effortless and new.

* Burning House Entertainment will host Rock for the Youth II, a rock benefit for Youth Emergency Services (YES), Saturday, June 29th at Chrome Lounge, 8552 Park Drive. Kansas City act Obsidian and local bands Through the Stone, SKYMAN, Rise To Reason and Invoking the Muse, will participate in the showcase. YES serves homeless and at-risk youth, up to 21 years old, by providing critically-needed resources, which help them become self-sufficient. Food, diaper and clothes donations will also be accepted at the show. Those who donate will receive a $1 off the $5 cover. For more information about YES, visit yesomaha.org.

* Several bars on West Broadway in Council Bluffs are putting together the first annual street dance Wednesday, July 3rd on the 100 block of West Broadway, starting at 6 p.m. The "Red, White and Boots" event will be headlined by country artist Jeremy McComb. The music is free. Patrons can sit in an outdoor beer garden for an additional $5.
