GLAMVIP Presents: Sabotage

Saturday’s runway show at the Magnolia Hotel an experiment in style subversion

Backstabbing, two-timing and sabotage. It's no longer confined to the scripts of “Gossip Girl” and reality television. This Saturday, you can witness it on the runway, as The Reader presents Glam VIP: Sabotage. Inspired by the catty girls and lotharios on the uber-popular TV series “Gossip Girl,” the Sabotage show will incorporate much of the same as the models attempt to trip and push each other on the runway (think Naomi Campbell, the notoriously temperamental supermodel combined with Blair Waldorf and her upper East Side entourage). But the guys are no angels either. Their eyes will wander as they move from girl to girl, instigating them. Vicious fighting and boyfriend-stealing will ensue. But the show must go on. Local DJ Derrick Calloway will provide the music, while local boutiques such as Roots & Wings and Coriander will be providing some of the hottest spring fashions. A popular hot spot for trendy and unique pieces, Roots & Wings proves to be one of the best boutiques in Omaha. They’re also one of the few who sell the elusive Toms shoes. Coriander, which opened in the fall of 2010, is located in the Old Market Passageway and provides everything from men’s ties and shirts to jewelry and shoes. Coriander will soon be a haven for local designers to showcase their pieces as well. Glam VIP is a long-running tradition in Omaha fashion presented by The Reader. It is a celebration of local talent in all shapes and forms from models to photographers, musicians to boutiques, make-up artists and hair stylists. With the backdrop of the beautiful and historic Magnolia Hotel, it is sure to be a controversial, wicked good time. Glam VIP: Sabotage takes place Saturday, April 30 at the Magnolia Hotel, 1615 Howard St., at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but to RSVP and reserve your seat, email glamvip1@gmail.com. All photography by Dale Heise. Hair and makeup by Salon Fusion. Styling by Linda Miller and Jessica Stensrud. Fashions by Roots and Wings, Coriander and Nouvelle Eve. Models are Daniel Covin, Mark Finochiaro, Taylor Tracy, Tori Tracy and Quinlan Gaillard of 89 Talent Management. Special thanks to the French Cafe.
