Fences

Sept. 24–Oct. 10 Fences John Beasley Theater, 3010 Q St. Thurs.-Sat. 6:30 p.m., Sun. 3 p.m. $27, $22 students/seniors, $15 Thurs. 502.5767, johnbeasleytheater.org The John Beasley Theater opens its 11th season with August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Fences. Focusing on the emotionally charged relationships of the Maxon family, Fences “offers a brutally honest portrayal of the African-American experience.” John Beasley will reprise the lead role of the Maxon patriarch Troy, a trash collector, former baseball player and family man who is evaluating his life as a husband, a father and a citizen. A deeply flawed character, Troy “represents the struggle for justice and fair treatment of African-Americans in the 1950s.”
