FASH FLOOD

In our first Omaha Fashion Week designer preview, we sat down with local designer Megan Hunt of Princess Lasertron to get the exclusive details on her latest collection.

Tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind your fall/winter 2012 collection.

“For the fall/winter 2012 collection we’re still following author Kay Thompson’s character Eloise, a girl with an upper crust New York upbringing. We find Eloise at fifteen years old, still living at the Plaza Hotel with Nanny, her dog Weeny, and a disastrous bedroom while her parents travel around the world on business trips or vacations.

She is experimenting with eyeliner and lipstick —all testers which she nicks from the counters at Saks Fifth Avenue —and is basically an all-around ungrateful and sulky teenager. Don’t worry, she will grow up to be a positive and normal contributing member of society, but she hasn’t really been raised right so she’s still pretty naughty.

So this collection of daywear is inspired by that. What would this girl wear? She’s got some great clothes and a strong personality, and she feels great about how she looks. So I’m trying to make that.”

How many looks will you be presenting and how does this collection differ from your past collections?

“I’m planning to do five looks, but I might complete two more if time allows. This collection differs from my previous collections because it’s separates, instead of special occasion dresses, like I’ve done in the past.
I decided on separates so I could create a little wardrobe; my customer could pick out their entire wardrobe from this collection if they wanted to.”

What designer collections are you most excited to see?

“I can’t wait to see Jane Round’s collection. I know she’s been designing capes lately and I hope to see them in the rich jewel tones she’s known for. I’m also excited for Emma Erickson’s collection; I love what she does with jersey and her designs are always thoughtful and conscientious.”

Princess Lasertron’s fall/winter 2012 collection will be presented at Omaha Fashion Week on Friday, March 23rd. OFW will take place at KANEKO, located at 1111 Jones Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. and presentations will begin promptly at 8 p.m. View the entire fashion week schedule and purchase tickets at omahafashionweek.com.
