Avi Buffalo w/ Mother Culture

Avi Buffalo w/ Mother Culture Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. 9 p.m., $8, theslowdown.com It’s easier to tone down our personal disappointments when we are able to relate them to others’ failures. Conversely, through their sudden triumphs we can be led to inspiration. Like a Long Beach kid named Avi who drops his dream of pro skateboarding — fear causing him to pick up a guitar — and eventually opens for Modest Mouse and is signed to Sub Pop. Not bad for a pick-me-up, especially when you consider he and all but one of his band mates just graduated high school. Drop your regrets and live in the fuzzy-wuzzy, pre-college sing-a-long blend of Avi and Co. You could probably even dance to it. — Darian Stout
