Emmitt-Nershi Band w/ The Weeping Figs

Sept. 27 Emmitt-Nershi Band w/ The Weeping Figs  Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St., 9 p.m., $12 ADV/$14 DOS, onepercentproductions.com What is it with jam bands being named after food? Phish, Leftover Salmon and the String Cheese Incident either had a bad case of the munchies or all listened to the 1970s acoustic blues-rock outfit, Hot Tuna. Whatever the case, Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon and Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident have cooked up their own unique version of modern bluegrass. Simply called the Emmitt-Nershi Band, the two seasoned multi-instrumentalists have pieced together elements of jazz, blues, country and rock to deliver their latest collaboration, New Country Blues. Armed with mandolins, guitars and fiddles, the album was written in three days during a weekend stay in Estes Park, Colorado. Once banjo player Andy Thorn and bassist Tyler Grant were added to the mix, the “Newgrass” sound was complete. The 11-track composition is a fresh take on old-time music that erupts with energetic rhythms, flawless finger picking and breezy harmonies.
