Cutting Room for February 22

  • Adam Sandler, whose contract with the devil that grants him riches and fame but specifies he must unleash the fresh hell that is a new film once a year, is returning to romantic comedy for his next outing. And he may be returning to a familiar partner in Drew Barrymore. Having forced her to listen to Billy Idol in The Wedding Singer and somewhat psychologically abused her in 50 First Dates, it is unclear the hokey premise of the new film, which is still looking for a director unless the reanimated corpse of Saddam Hussein is free.
  • The mini-and-mighty Peter Dinklage has been surfing a career tsunami thanks to his award-winning performance in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the most popular television show to ever feature repeated incest. Now comes word that he has been cast as a villain in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Speculation on his role has been rampant, but director Brian Singer put the kibosh on the idea that he’ll be playing a CGI character. If he wants to be the biggest villain in X-Men movie franchise history, he’ll star as Brett Ratner.
  • Michael Bay can’t stay mad at you…provided you’re a jaw-droppingly gorgeous actress. The Transformers-based feud between Bay and Megan Fox has been squished beneath her creepy toe thumbs, as she put pen to paper and signed on to be April O’Neil in the upcoming live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot that Bay is producing. Fingers crossed he gets John Turturro for Shredder.
  • We haven’t seen writer/director Neill Blomkamp’s second film, Elysium, yet. But based on his work on District 9, I’m already excited for his third film, Chappie. Despite sounding like a cheeky British rom com, the film is described as a “sci-fi comedy” or what Hollywood calls “box office poison.”
