Crumbs: Morels!

* Pizzeria Dante will be serving a three course-dinner featuring seasonal ingredients including morel mushrooms, soft-shell crabs, English peas and more this Thursday, April 28. Some ingredients, such as the morels, peas and salad greens are locally sourced, and even if you can’t make it to the dinner, they’ll be showing up on the menu. The dinner runs $35 per person, with an additional $20 per person if you’d like to add wine pairings. To make sure you’ve got a place at the table, make a reservation via email (jgilmore@dantepizzeria.com) or call 402.932.3078. * Those of you thinking you can eat those SnackWells to your heart’s content (they’re low fat, right? What could go wrong?), might want to watch it. The New York Times reports the brand’s getting reintroduced with a few new items that are higher in calories than the popular Devil’s Food Cookie Cakes and Crème Sandwich Cookies. The oldies will remain 100 calories per serving, while new items like Fudge Crème Brownie Bites and Rich Vanilla Crème Brownie Bites clock in at 150 calories per serving. Why the caloric ceiling? Yes, it helps those who can't control their cravings get a handle on their munching, but it also has some scientific bearing. The Times article cites a study at Cornell University that found that even when snackers weren't monitoring their caloric intake, most stopped at 170-190 calories. That presents a problem if your sweet spot (no pun intended) is those Devil's Food cakes, but makes an argument for a single serving of Rich Vanilla Creme Brownie Bites. Or you could just have an apple.
