Read it and Eat Culinary Conference, Everyday Extraordinaire, Italian Gardens

Check out this fun event for all “foodies” or history buffs. There will be a Read it and Eat Culinary Conference at the W. Dale Clark Main Library on Saturday November 3rd, from 11:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. The event is for all ages. Join former restaurateurs, Omaha food enthusiasts and historians as they discuss how menus have changed dramatically over the past 50 years in Omaha to reflect changes in society and how we look at food. People knowledgeable about the evolution of Omaha’s restaurants, food and kitchens will discuss the changes, as well as the reasons for the changes. Menus will be on display.  Isa Chandra Moskowitz from Post Punk Kitchen (theppk.com) will conduct a food demonstration of vegan cooking using readily available and inexpensive ingredients.

 Christy Pooschke, creator of GroceryGeek (grocerygeek.com) will present “Eating Outside the Box.” She will explain how she improved her health by reducing her reliance on processed foods, and she will show you how to avoid hidden food additives at the grocery store.

 Carrie McKenzie, chef and author of “Savour Cuisine” (savour-cuisine.com), will conduct a “Taste Beautiful Foods” demo. “Cooking is creating. It is blending, combining and selecting ingredients that compliment one another or contrast in a way that wakes up all the senses. It alerts the mind and mouth that something wonderful is taking place, and to take note,” said McKenzie.

With November here and Thanksgiving right around the corner, you may want to upgrade your feast with an impress your guests, creative way to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving. On Wednesday November 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Metropolitan Community College’s Institute for the Culinary Arts will offer an Everyday Extraordinaire class featuring a Turkey Roulade. Italian Gardens on 1228 6th Street,  is offering a Buy One Entree Get Another Half Price Special through November 8th as a way to encourage the community to give them a try.  You will need to present the coupon while dining. For coupon information, email jeff@italiangardensomaha.com.
