Author James Solhein will be at the Bookworm at 87th and Pacific this Saturday, May 14th to sign copies of his new book Born Yesterday, The Diary of a Young Journalist. He will conduct a writing workshop for all ages. He will also help attendees make a picture book they can take with them. The event starts at 11 a.m. Later that evening, the OM Center at 12th and Howard in the Old Market will celebrate its 10th anniversary by hosting a Poetry Slam and open mic. This week’s guest is OM Slam all-time winner Dan Leamen. Audience members can also get in on the action. Any poem using the word "anniversary" gets an additional half-point added to its score. The open mic starts at 7:30 p.m. and is followed by the slam, but it’s best to sign up early to secure a spot. There’s a $7 suggested donation. Last week three publishers — Hachette Book Group, Penguin Group and Simon & Schuster — announced a partnership with AOL Huffington Post Media Group to launch Bookish.com, a site promising to offer readers “a personalized experience connecting them with their favorite authors and books through original editorial features, unique tools and more.” You can sign up for email updates now at Bookish.com; the site’s supposed to be up and running sometime this summer.
