Bemis art talk, First Friday in Omaha and Lincoln, Lincoln feminist show calls for art

Bemis Thursday art talk Feb. 2 includes artists Matthew Radune, Eric Zimmerman and collaborators Lauren Was and Adam Eckstrom of Ghost of a Dream. Also Thursday night, Love’s Jazz and Arts Center opens Soul Sanctuary with images of the African American worship experience by photographer Jason Miccolo Johnson from across the country.  Thursday night at Modern Arts Midtown, Stroke by Stroke, paintings by Omaha artist Jacqueline Kluver opens featuring new abstract paintings by the Omaha-based artist.

Omaha First Friday includes Artists' Cooperative Gallery’s Art: The World through our Eyes featuring work by painters Ken Heimbuch and Katrina Methot-Swanson and sculptor Tom Sitzman.

Saturday night at Hot Shops Studio 321, g thompson higgins hosts a Drink n Draw exhibition including figure drawings created at Drink n Draw events over the past year, complemented by images by photographer Higgins of the artists and models during the creative sessions.

Omaha Artists, Inc. a group of over 100 member artists, has been in existence for over 65 years to promote the development and appreciation of art in the Omaha metro area with outreach programs including teaching recent adult immigrants art. The group’s upcoming show Winter Escape, opening at the Jewish Community Center Art Gallery Sunday Feb. 5, features over 20 members’ work in pencil, acrylic, watercolor, oil, photography, pastel and sculpture.

Two March Hot Shops exhibitions are calling for art for a community purpose.  Artists for Hope, a nonprofit supporting The Real Hope For Haiti Rescue Center in Cazale Haiti, is seeking artists to participate in their March non-juried fundraiser show in Hot Shops 1301 Gallery. artistsforhope.org for details. Also, the Second Annual Art for the Heart Art Show/Fundraising Event for the American Heart Association in March in the Hot Shops’ Nicholas Street Gallery is seeking art. UNL-Womanhouse, a feminist art collaboration in Lincoln, Nebraska, starts its bi-month-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of WOMANHOUSE with the opening of The House That Feminism Built, an interactive, growing exhibition at Parallax Space Feb. 3. They’re inviting gallery-goers to bring “red, pink, and purple women’s clothing for sewing, and all your half-empty, no longer using ‘beauty products’ “ for a project the night of the opening. A series of related events including film screenings, panel discussions, sewing sessions and community activities will take place throughout February and March. As part of Women’s Week, UNL Women’s Center is calling for art of all media addressing feminism today for the Little Waves exhibition in UNL’s Rotunda Gallery. Visit unlwomanhouse.org for details.

Also in Lincoln opening this weekend, Tugboat Gallery presents Wired to Distant Things featuring art by Victoria Hoyt, Ben Swift and Paul Tisdale. Lux Center for the Arts opens In The Woodland Shade with art by illustrator Nicole Gustafsson.
