An Evening With Mike Doughty

A man of many hats, Mike Doughty is a singer, guitarist, author, blogger and founder of the alt. rock band, Soul Coughing. Moderately successful, the band put out four full-length records before parting ways. Described by Doughty  as “deep slacker jazz,”  Soul Coughing was a cacophonous mixture of improvisational jazz, electronics, hip-hop and crazy samples. Combined with Doughty’s stream-of-consciousness poetry, it was unique, to say the least. After their tumultuous breakup in 2000, Doughty went on as a solo artist and has been spitting out albums ever since. A chance meeting with Dave Matthews at the Bonnaroo Festival in 2004 sent Doughty down the path to individual success after Matthews decided to put out Haughty Melodic on his ATO record label. The rest is history. His latest album, The Question Jar Show is on the shelves and the ambitious artist also published his memoir of sorts, The Book Of Drugs, in January of this year. Currently on tour in support of those efforts, Doughty makes a stop in Omaha this Tuesday.

An Evening With Mike Doughty, March 27, at The Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St., 9 p.m. Tickets are $15. Visit www.onepercentproductions.com for more information.
