Farmer’s ready to harvest their first crops

From flooded fields in 2011, to a March harvest in 2012, local farmer’s face a new challenge – nowhere to sell their produce. Omaha’s warm spring has caused local farmers to already harvest their first crop of asparagus, radishes, garden greens, and rhubarb, but area farmer’s markets do not open until May putting owners in a pickle.“I’ve never harvested my asparagus this early before,” said Omaha area farmer Susan Miller of Grandview Farms.” Susan has been harvesting her asparagus for over 2 weeks already. One Omaha business is providing a free solution. Tomāto Tomäto, Omaha’s Indoor Farmer’s Market, is offering space to local farmers who desire to sell their fresh produce to the Omaha community. Tomāto Tomäto will welcome farmers every Saturday in April from 9 a.m. to noon.

Being married to chef instructor, Brian O'Malley combined with my own culinary background has ensured my connection to all things food. Mostly, I share my time and passions with my two little girls.
